In rhinoplasty, technological developments in the surgical field in recent years have made rhinoplasty an extremely easy and effortless process. Compared to the old conservative methods, ultrasonic rhinoplasty both facilitates the work of the plastic surgeon and makes the patient’s postoperative recovery process comfortable.
With this method called piezo system, the surgeon can shape the bone like a sculptor without breaking the bone tissue with ultrasonic electrically sensitive small heads instead of the old large hand tools. With this method, uncontrolled bone fractures are prevented. Another advantage of the ultrasonic piezo system is that the system stops working when it comes to soft tissue while working by giving the desired shape in the bone, which prevents the plastic surgeon from unintentionally damaging the tissue. Looking at the old conservative methods, when breaking large bones, bruising and swelling, especially in the eyes, were high due to unintentional damage to neighbouring tissues. Since the ultrasonic piezo system is very sensitive and gentle on the tissue, we see that there is almost no bruising and swelling formation.
In nasal aesthetic surgery, bone structures often need to be rasped or broken regularly and repositioned in order to give the desired shape to the nose. These operations on the bone are called hump resection, madian osteotomy and lateral osteotomy in the medical literature. In the classical approach, controlled fracture lines created in the bones during surgery are made using a chisel and hammer called osteotom. After rhinoplasty, the most important cause of bruising, which starts from the edge of the nose and extends to the eye area and can sometimes be quite severe, is these manoeuvres on the bones and bleeding in the surrounding soft tissue during manoeuvres.
When performing rhinoplasty with the ultrasonic system, the dissection is wide and the surgeon needs to see the area where the lateral osteotomy will be performed, that is, the surgeon sees the area where the surgeon performs the procedure. This means that there is no need for revision.
After the operation, the patient is hospitalised for one night, thin silicone leaf tampons are placed in the nose, these tampons do not prevent the patient’s breathing.
Five days later, the tampons are removed, the patient can return to normal life.
