Nose Thinning Surgery

Thickness of the nasal skin is a structural condition, thick skin causes the nose to appear fuller and larger, often what bothers people is the thickness of the skin, although the nasal bone structure is small. In this type of nose structure, a process is required before surgery, the nasal skin can be thinned with fractional laser at certain session intervals. The fractional laser system, which we have applied before many thick-skinned nose surgeries, is a very effective method. It is an application that facilitates the work of the plastic surgeon while preparing the patient for surgery.

Before the nose thinning surgery , the thinness predicted by the plastic surgeon should be explained to the patient and the expectation should not be kept high. It should not be forgotten that thick skin is a structural condition and that the possible thinness will be given by the physician by shaving the tissue from the inside.

The disadvantage of the patient with a thick skin is that it cannot reflect the sharp lines and angles created well. For this reason, extra cartilage is added to the nose for an attractive nasal tip. Sometimes the skin is shaved from the inside.

Thick skin is slower to heal and remove the oedema. When the tip and back of the nose are reduced too much, the skin may have difficulty wrapping the new roof. In patients in this group, the nose should be reduced in moderation. Thick-skinned noses are generally seen in people with oily skin structure. It is a common condition in our country. Sometimes the tip of the nose may be thick and the upper part may have thin skin. No matter how thinned under thick skin, the cartilage formed below is insufficient to show bone construction. If the person’s cartilages are also thick, then the surgeon’s job is easier. In patients with thick skin, the overall nose can be reduced by enlarging the nasal roof. Before the nose surgery, it should be explained to the patient that the oedema in the nose will recover later than thin-skinned patients.
